So you want to join our magic club......
Why? If you are a newcomer to magic, finding an audience that is willing to watch you practice is difficult. Soon, you run out of friends, neighbors, relatives, and before long, you find your own mother avoiding you.
And when you do find an audience on which to practice - what happens when you make mistakes? You reveal the secrets so important to the art of magic.
If you find yourself experiencing these problems, the Dallas Magic Clubs just might be your answer. Here, you will find many compeers ready to watch, always ready to criticize, and always ready to put you down. And this is the best practice you can get for performing in the real world.
MONEY
To join the Dallas Magic Clubs, your need MONEY - of course, nothing is for free. You may attend as a guest for no more than two meetings. By then, you should know if you really want to associate with strange people like us. Once you pass that test, we would expect you to join.
JOINING
JOINING requires that you first join one of the two international organizations, International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.)(First year's dues is $55, then $40 annually), or Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.)(First year's dues is $65, the n $50 annually). You can get applications for these organizations from your club secretary (Joannie Lehr 972 226-1313 - KlownChuck@aol.com). At that same time, you will complete an application to belong to our local club (annual dues $20).
AGE
In order for the club to take your MONEY, you have to be old enough to give it to us.
The national rules are:
- A 16-year old member in good standing of S.A.M. can be a voting member of Assembly 13.
- IBM members in good standing aged 14 - 17 can belong to the IBM Ring 174 but cannot hold office until the age of 18 is achieved.
So… if you wished to become a member of a local magic club and you are under the age of 16, it would be cheaper and would probably benefit you more by contacting the SYM (Society of Young Magicians) which is an arm of the Society of American Magicians. How to find us
Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month. Gathering begins at 7 p.m.
We have landed at Slappy's.
Here are some instructions on how to get to Slappy's Puppet Playhouse. You might save them for when you make the trip.
FROM IH 635 HEADING EAST -- Exit 22D
You will be on the exit ramp for only about three tenths of a mile (less than half a mile) .. Ease to your right and you will be on a connector, which takes you to the service road by-passing the TOLLWAY entrances. In a few hundred yards, you will come to an intersection with two traffic lights. Turn LEFT (NORTH) at the SECOND light.
Enter RED PARKING, Drive up to level 4P. If you park at Level 4P, you will be able to see the doors marked MALL ENTRANCE (Not the Macy's Entrance). When you enter the mall, Slappy's is on that same level (LEVEL THREE in the Galleria) to your left, on the far side of the mall. |
